Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly - Academy 2 - 04/04/08 by

Four years ago, Sam Duckworth applied to Manchester Metropolitan University to do Marketing, but instead of going to uni, he picked up a guitar and became Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.
12 months ago, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly played the exact same venue, but to a far less than sold out crowd. For this show, Academy 2 was full to bursting, and with an hour and a half set, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, treated his old and new fans to a set of tracks from both his debut album and his new one, “Searching For The Hows and Whys”.
The stage was a simple set up, with a retro backdrop. One of the great things about Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is the simplicity – no gimmicks, of fancy stages are required – it’s all about the music. Kicking of the show, just like last year, with “Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager (part 2)”, it was easy to see why more fans have been gained.
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly (more of a band now, than just a single person), show a maturity and level of song writing that is rare in a world of manufactured pop. Song’s like “Waiting For the Monster to Drown”, “Young and Lovestruck” sounded fantastic and the crowd favourite “I Spy” – which the crowd sang the chorus and harmonies for – sounded amazing. Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly is indeed a fine talent.
The superb “Moving Forward”, which was performed solo acoustic and under a single spotlight, was proof of Duckworth’s excellent voice and song writing ability. He is a very humble person, with a very intelligent mind, and this comes through in his passionate performance. His views on the world, are captured well in all his songs.
Although all the songs were performed on acoustic guitar, there were many lively, bouncy moments – none more so than closing song “Chronicles of a Bohemian Teenager (part 1)”, which he dedicated to his friends in Manchester.
